English Press Note ABVP Press Conferance on Budget 2020

Welcome the reforms proposed for education sector in the general budget presented by Union Government: ABVP

This budget will help in expediting reforms in quality education and skill development in the country. The National Education Policy should be unveiled at the earliest and implemented soon. More clarity regarding FDI in education sector needed: ABVP

ABVP welcomes the provision of Foreign Direct Investment in the Higher Education sector and believes that it will go a long way in strengthening our education system. ABVP is of the firm belief that our institutions of learning need a structural overhaul. Starting from the complex enrolment, employability, training and adequate research facilities are some of the major issues that require simultaneous correctives.

It is hoped that the Union government will take adequate steps to fortify and revitalize our public education system to bring it at par with some of the leading private institutions of higher learning. Also, while being conditional appreciative of FDI in the education sector, one must remain circumspect regarding the possibility of its abuse by way of unchecked commercialisation.

ABVP also admires the steps taken to increase the employability of our youthful work force. The proposed establishment of 150 new institutes of higher learning, embedded apprenticeship programmes within professional degree/diploma courses, internship opportunities facilitated by local public bodies, provision of online degree courses from the top 100 NIRF institutes, and augmented collaboration between district hospitals and medical colleges via public private partnership deserve rightful acclamation from the student community.

A commendable step towards preserving and promoting the rich Indian heritage and culture has been taken by the proposal to set up the Indian Institute of Heritage and Conservation under the tutelage of the Union Ministry of Culture. With world-class research backed scientific underpinnings, this planned centre will make it smoother to transcend from the realm of faith to the domain of facts. ABVP demands a white paper from the government, delineating the various programme structures and their corollary constituents pertinent to the proposed National Forensic University and National Police University respectively.

ABVP also demands an immediate disclosure of the National Education Policy, followed by its speedy implementation.
