English Press Release ABVP’s Concerns on the Recommendations of GoM on COVID-19

Views on GoM’s COVID-19 containment measures shared with the PM

ABVP has put forward its viewpoint to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in respect of the recommendations by the Central Government Group of Ministers for the measures to check the spread of COVID-19.

The 21-point recommendation list submitted by the Central Group of Ministers to address the emerging challenges to the academic and social life in the country includes the suggestion to prohibit public gatherings at schools, universities, marketplaces, places of worship, in addition to outlawing congregations at social functions, at least for 4 weeks beyond 14 April.

The recommendations sent in to the Prime Minister by ABVP call on the administration to take account of notable issues like deferral of entrance examinations, relaxation vis-a-vis thesis submission dates, a return to classroom instructions and the subsequent conduct of examinations from 15 May onwards, subject to the restoration of normalcy. ABVP also urged the Prime Minister to address several acute social challenges involving the loss of income to labour in tribal areas, smooth and continuous movement of transport carrying grains and other essential goods, as well as the provision of personal protective equipment for the operators engaged in the supply and maintenance of essential goods and services.

Nidhi Tripathi, National General Secretary, ABVP, said, “To effectively contain and reverse this pandemic, it is imperative to disallow public assemblies, at the very least till May 15. Also, the apparent complications in the education sector would require special consideration to prevent great losses to the student, as well as the larger academic community.”
