Administration should take strict action against the rioters who entered Jamia’s library: ABVP
The culprits responsible for multiple incidents of violence and arson around Jamia Millia Islamia on 15 December 2019 can be identified from a video leaked on 16 February 2020, wherein masked anti-social elements with stones in hand are clearly visible.
The Parliament of India had legislated the Citizenship (Amendment) Act to grant citizenship to persecuted minorities who have fled the neighbouring Islamic countries of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh due to religious persecution till 31 December 2014. The extremist forces have used the campuses like Jamia and AMU for partisan political adventures. The post-enactment violence also exposes the aggressive, intolerant, anarchist, and fundamentalist thought-leadership behind the irrational hostility to the Act.
ABVP unequivocally condemns the attempts by anti-social elements to run the reputation of a prestigious university like Jamia Millia into the ground. ABVP demands that the university administration and the Delhi Police assess the veracity of the leaked video and take speedy action against the persons visible therein, specifically against one plausible rioter who publicly self-identifies as a leading student-activist. Also, there is a pressing need for self-introspection on part of those who have been blindly supporting the post-enactment violence by anarchists, visibly disregarding their social responsibility as members of the civil society.
