UGC's guidelines for conduct of examinations commendable: ABVP Student interests must be prioritised while taking a call on conduct of examinations by educational institutions
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad requests all the institutes of higher education that they take into account the issues faced by students residing in rural and tribal areas, like poor internet connectivity and unavailability of course related study material, before taking a call on any academic issue based on the UGC guidelines.
ABVP had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Human Resource Development Ministry which highlighted that examinations must not be conducted in online mode, research students be given an extension of six months over the deadline for theses submission etc. That the University Grants Commission has reacted in a manner favorable to the students in these matters is commendable.
The UGC's decision to give the research scholars a relaxation of six months by extending the deadline for theses submission will bring solace to the students. The decision to give universities the authority to take necessary calls in the matter of examinations, keeping in mind the covid-19 induced lockdown is also in the best interest of students and universities.
Nidhi Tripathi, National General Secretary, ABVP, said, "The way the University Grants Commission has highlighted the issues facing the educational sector is commendable. Universities and other educational institutions now need to ensure that they conduct the practical’s, viva, internal assessments and the semester examinations in a way that is in the best interest of the students."
